Haroldphillips.net Is Live
Hey folks
I've been threatening to do it for a while... and now the time has come.
I've unleased haroldphillips.net on the world. Stop by and check it out. More photos, video and voice samples will be coming "soon." While you're there, sign up for the mailing list (there's a sign-up box on the left side of the home page, and one on the "Contact Harold" page); I'll send out periodic emails about projects I'm working on to list subscribers (not too many, t hough - I promise!).
So... why do I need another web site (aside from the 'blog, my MySpace page, and http://www.munin-ent.com)? I've struggled with this question a bit... after all, no one likes a guy who's always tooting his own horn, and my general preference is to fade into the background rather than standing out front trying to soak up the attention.
The first and most obvious reason is self-promotion. As I worm my way deeper into Portland's film industry, I'm coming to realize that the only way to get attention from producers, casting directors and directors is to put myself out there front-and-center. I'm having to fight my disinclination to do this... but the networking I've done with MySpace and through other contacts has really paid off over the past year, and the web site is another logical step in that direction (especially once I get my video and voice reels up there).
I've also had several people over the years tell me that they'd like to hear about my theatrical and film projects. Given the number of people I interact with on a daily basis, contacting everyone about everything I'm doing would be pretty hard - the web site gives me a central hub to keep people informed about things that are happening on this side of my life. A quick check of the home page will give people a nutshell view of what's coming up, and if they add their email address to my mailing list I can send them specific information (without "spamming" a bunch of people who don't care).
And, of course, there is a little bit of vanity involved... I've been collecting photos from the shows I've been in for years. While my photo page on MSN is a good utilitarian place to put them, haroldphillips.net is a more focused, theatre-and-film-related spot for those images. I'll still post personal photos on MSN, but the new site is going to be the place to find all my future acting photos.
So, yeah... I'm a stuck-up, egotistical narcisist. Like that comes as a surprise to any of you... anyway, check out the site, add yourself to the mailing list, bookmark it, yadda yadda yadda. I'm going to try and keep it up-to-date as much as possible... after all, my hope is that lots and lots of people will visit it often.
Hope you're all doing well...
